Malvinder Singh Kang, the Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP, met with the family of the late Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Y. Puran Kumar on Friday in Chandigarh. He expressed deep sorrow over the officer’s tragic death and urged both the Haryana state and central governments to take immediate, transparent action.
Kang said the officer—a dedicated Dalit who rose from a modest background to a respected position in the IPS—lost his life in a manner that “raises serious questions about the system.” He called the collapse a painful reminder that even prestigious officers can feel overwhelmed by pressure.
The MP highlighted systemic failures that surfaced in the case, including the treatment of Dalit public servants in positions of responsibility. “The Chief Justice of India is a Dalit, and an IPS officer from Haryana should not face such unbearable pressure,” Kang said. He stressed that the incident reflects broader governance and caste‑related issues.
“India cannot afford such tragedies,” Kang told reporters. “The system must protect all officers—regardless of caste or background—through fairness, justice, and dignity.”
Kang promised ongoing support for the officer’s family and pledged to raise the issue in all relevant forums. He called for urgent reforms to prevent future incidents and to ensure safer working conditions for law‑enforcement personnel across the country.
