BJP Slams Congress and AAP Over Punjab Flood Failures
In a sharp attack on the opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Punjab chief Sunil Jakhar accused the Congress of sidelining the state’s needs to cozy up to the Aam Aadmi Party for national gains. Speaking in Chandigarh on Friday, Jakhar pointed out that even after recent floods exposed the Punjab government’s shortcomings, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stayed mum during his visit—no criticism of the AAP-led administration in sight.
Jakhar didn’t hold back on the Congress state unit either. "They’re failing big time as the opposition," he said in a statement. He called this silence clear proof that Congress and AAP are two sides of the same coin, with their alliance now out in the open for everyone to see.
Turning to the floods, Jakhar questioned the AAP government’s claims of spending Rs 230 crore on prevention measures. "Look at how the embankments crumbled—it’s obvious they didn’t take it seriously," he remarked. He stressed that the devastation screams Punjab government failure, yet Congress stays completely quiet on the flood crisis in Punjab.
Jakhar also dismissed the government’s move to call an assembly session as a pointless delay tactic. "If they meant business, they’d use the Rs 12,000 crore already in the State Disaster Response Fund. People want immediate flood relief aid right now," he added.
The BJP leader warned that Congress will pay a heavy price for betraying Punjab’s interests, while the AAP regime—blamed for letting floods drown the state—will face the people’s wrath in the court of public opinion.
This comes a day after BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh fired off his own broadside against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. Chugh held them directly responsible for turning a natural flood disaster in Punjab into a "Mann-made disaster" through sheer incompetence and delays.
"Punjab’s AAP government surrendered to vested interests, transforming a routine seasonal flood into a heartbreaking human tragedy," Chugh said. He made it clear: this isn’t just flooding in Punjab—it’s a disaster crafted by poor governance.
