Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is currently in the hospital’s ICU after his health worsened over the past couple of days. He was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Friday, following two days of illness that kept him from joining relief efforts in flood-hit areas of the state.
For the last two days, CM Mann was unwell and receiving treatment at his official residence in Chandigarh. Due to his health condition, he was unable to accompany Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on a planned visit to flood-affected villages on Thursday. As his condition didn’t improve, doctors decided to shift him to Fortis Hospital for better care and monitoring.
Earlier today, CM Mann had to cancel a crucial Cabinet meeting because he was suffering from a high fever. He also had to cancel his visit to flood-affected villages in Kapurthala district at the last minute, as his health didn’t allow him to travel.
The flood situation in Punjab remains serious, with 43 deaths reported so far. Around 1,698 villages across 23 districts are submerged due to heavy rains and floods, impacting over 3.80 lakh people. Chief Minister Mann had been touring flood-affected areas for several days without proper rest or meals. Despite his illness, he remained concerned about helping the people, according to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Kejriwal visited the flood zones and shared that CM Mann had asked him to rest for a couple of days to recover. Even while unwell, CM Mann’s focus was on providing relief and aid to those affected by the floods.
In response to the crisis, Punjab government has taken measures to improve flood relief efforts. CM Mann has instructed officials to deploy a gazetted officer in every flood-stricken village. These officers will help oversee relief work and ensure direct communication between local residents and government authorities.
