Even from his hospital bed in Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann shows his strong dedication to the flood-hit people of the state. Officials shared this update on Sunday, highlighting how Mann is actively overseeing the massive relief and rescue operations despite his recovery at Fortis Hospital.
Mann held a key meeting with Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha, DGP Gaurav Yadav, and other top officials. He voiced serious worries about the flood situation caused by heavy rains and ordered the team to make sure no affected citizen gets left out. The focus is on providing food, clean drinking water, and medical help, especially to those stuck in isolated areas cut off from main roads.
After the meeting, Chief Secretary Sinha said the Chief Minister is recovering quickly and should be back on the ground in a day or two. “His heart and mind are fully with the thousands of families suffering from the recent floods and heavy downpours,” Sinha added. The Punjab government remains united in its efforts to heal the damage from these floods and rebuild broken homes.
During the discussion, officials updated Mann on the scale of the crisis. So far, floods have displaced over 3,87,898 people directly, while more than 20 lakh residents in 2,050 villages across all 23 flood-affected districts are facing hardships. This has badly hit the state’s economy too.
The Punjab government has already evacuated 22,938 people from the worst-hit spots and set up 219 relief camps, where 5,404 individuals are now sheltered. In terms of agriculture, a huge 176,980.05 hectares of crop area across various districts have suffered damage due to the flooding.
Tragically, the floods have claimed 48 lives so far, and three people are still missing in Pathankot district. Punjab’s relief efforts continue non-stop to support flood victims and restore normalcy in the state.
