Punjab Police Bust Major Drug Smuggling Ring in Ferozepur
Ferozepur police in Punjab scored a big win against drug smugglers on September 15. They arrested a 22-year-old suspect named Sonu and seized a whopping 15 kilograms and 775 grams of heroin. The drugs, smuggled from Pakistan, are worth around Rs 75 crore in the black market.
Acting on a tip-off, the CIA staff swooped in and caught Sonu hiding near an embankment on the Sutlej River in the Ali area. This bust highlights the growing threat of cross-border drug trafficking in Punjab.
During questioning, police uncovered a shady plot linking Sonu to a big-time smuggler locked up in Kapurthala jail. That jailed kingpin apparently ordered the heroin from his contacts in Pakistan. Now, Punjab Police plans to haul him in for deeper grilling to crack the case wide open.
SSP Bhupinder Singh shared key details with . He pointed out how drug peddlers along the Ferozepur border are ramping up activities, taking advantage of the ongoing floods. "These smugglers are using the chaos to push consignments non-stop," the SSP said.
In fact, over the past 15 days, cops have nabbed about 30 kg of heroin in the Ferozepur region—all traced back to Pakistan. This latest heroin seizure in Punjab adds to the tally.
The team is now digging into the full network. They’re tracing supply routes, buyer links, and how these Pakistan-based drug smugglers stay connected. The goal? To smash the entire heroin smuggling chain and make Punjab safer from this menace.
