In Chandigarh, India, around 800 police officers recently gathered for a lively Bada Khana—a traditional feast that highlights unity and teamwork in the force. The event brought a strong sense of brotherhood among the Chandigarh Police personnel.
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria joined as the chief guest, with top officials like Chief Secretary Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, Finance Secretary Diprava Lakra, Director General of Police Sagar Preet Hooda, and others attending to celebrate the occasion.
During the dinner, the governor handed out scholarships worth Rs 1.85 crore to 402 children of Chandigarh Police members, supporting their education and future goals. He also recognized 21 standout students who shone in national and international sports or topped their Class X and XII exams, presenting them with cheques for their hard work.
Director General Sagar Preet Hooda paid heartfelt tribute to fallen officers and their families, calling them the real strength behind every patrol and mission. “Our families drive every effort we make,” he said, praising their constant support.
Hooda spotlighted new welfare initiatives from the Chandigarh Police, such as boosted financial help for natural or accidental deaths, increased funeral aid, marriage and education loans, disability support, and quick emergency medical care. He also shared good news: the force is restarting deposit returns with interest, paused since 2022.
Governor Kataria announced the release of the long-delayed 13th salary for Chandigarh Police staff, held up for two years over technical issues. To reward top performers, he gave cash prizes to leading police stations: Rs 50,000 to IT Park for first place, Rs 30,000 to Sarangpur for second, and Rs 20,000 to Industrial Area for third, based on a full review of their work.
The day wrapped up with Kataria inaugurating the new Chandigarh Police Family Welfare Centre. It’s already offering vocational classes in stitching, painting, and baking for police families and spouses, helping them build new skills.
This Bada Khana event strengthened ties among officers, honoring their discipline, collaboration, and dedication to public service in Chandigarh.
