Punjab Rises to Help Flood Victims: Relief Efforts Launch in Chandigarh
In a big show of support, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria kicked off relief efforts for flood-affected families on Friday. He flagged off nine trucks loaded with emergency supplies, sent by the Red Cross Society Punjab to help those hit by floods.
These trucks are headed to key districts like Ferozepur, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Ropar, Ludhiana, Malerkotla, and Jalandhar. The relief materials will be distributed through local Red Cross units to reach the most affected families.
What’s in the relief kits? The trucks carry family tents, tarpaulins, kitchen sets, blankets, and around 7,000 household items. These include essential supplies like sanitary pads, food rations, soap, and more. Plus, in partnership with NGOs, Punjab Red Cross has also sent 100 tons of animal fodder to assist farmers and livestock owners suffering from the floods.
During the event, Governor Kataria emphasized the importance of community support during disasters. “Helping flood-affected families is our moral duty,” he said. “The Red Cross and other organizations embody Punjab’s spirit of service and cooperation, strengthening our human values.”
He shared that he recently visited seven flood-affected districts and saw firsthand the hardships people are facing. “Now is the time for all of us to come together and lend a hand,” Kataria added. “Punjab’s people have always supported each other in tough times, and we must continue this tradition so families can recover quickly.”
Just the day before, the Chandigarh Red Cross sent two trucks filled with relief supplies to flood-affected areas in Amritsar. These included 500 household kits, sanitary pads, and utensils to help families rebuild their lives.
The relief effort saw strong support from officials like Principal Secretary to the Governor Vivek Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, Secretary of Punjab Red Cross Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon, along with other government and Red Cross staff.
Together, these initiatives show Punjab’s commitment to helping flood victims and rebuilding communities.
