Chandigarh, Nov. 14 – Punjab Police took down a cross‑border fake cash ring last week, arresting two men from Dera Bassi and seizing almost 10 crore rupees in counterfeit notes.
The suspects, Sachin and Gurdeep, live in Kurukshetra, Haryana. Police recovered about ₹11 lakhs in real, old‑style currency and ₹9.88 crore in fake money. A white Scorpio‑N that they were driving was also impounded.
Senior police officials say the pair spread the scam by layering real notes over fabricated ones, then swapping them out to trick buyers. The duo has links to similar frauds in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, and may have a wider criminal network still under investigation.
The operation began after a tip about two men suspected of running an interstate fake‑currency scheme. Detectives under Superintendent Manpreet Singh and DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar set up a checkpoint near the PWD Rest House on Ghaggar Bridge, the old Ambala‑Kalka highway. At the spot, they stopped the men and seized the fake notes and the copyrighted currency.
Punjab Police say further arrests and recoveries are expected as the probe continues. The crackdown is part of a broader effort to curb cross‑state counterfeit money distribution.
