Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Drug Smuggling Ring in Ferozepur
In a quick and smart operation, Punjab Police stopped a major drug smuggling attempt from across the border. They arrested a man named Sonu Singh from Habibwala in Ferozepur and seized 15.7 kg of heroin from him. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared this update on Sunday.
Sonu Singh has no prior criminal record, but early probes show he worked for a drug network run by someone already in Kapurthala Jail. The heroin came from smugglers based in Pakistan. "We’re digging deeper to uncover the full network," DGP Yadav said. Investigations continue to expose everyone involved in this cross-border drug smuggling.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu from Ferozepur gave more details on the bust. Police got a tip that Sonu had picked up the heroin consignment. Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Manjeet Singh and Deputy Superintendent of Police Barjinder Singh, teams moved fast. They nabbed him in Dulchi Ke village. SSP Sidhu added that more arrests and seizures could happen soon as the probe heats up.
This isn’t the first win for Punjab Police against such crimes. Just last week, Amritsar’s Counter Intelligence team smashed another cross-border smuggling module linked to Pakistan. They arrested five people—Jaskaran Singh, Amritpal Singh, Gurwinder Singh, Amandeep Singh, and Harkeerat Singh—and recovered six high-tech pistols, 1 kg of heroin, and Rs 6 lakh in drug money.
The weapons included two 9mm Glock pistols with magazines, two .30 bore Px5 pistols with magazines, and two .30 bore Star Mark pistols with magazines. DGP Yadav explained that these suspects followed orders from Pakistan-based smugglers who used drones to drop the illegal arms and drugs over the border. The group then sold these weapons to criminals and gangsters, aiming to boost crime in Punjab.
