Punjab Revenue Officers Donate Rs 10 Lakh to Flood Relief Fund
In a heartwarming show of solidarity, the Punjab Revenue Officers Association stepped up on Friday by donating Rs 10 lakh to the Chief Minister Relief Fund. This generous contribution aims to support families battered by recent floods in Punjab. Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian praised the move, calling it a shining example of social responsibility that inspires everyone.
The donation took place at the Punjab Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh. Association leaders, including Tehsildar Sukcharan Singh Channi, Tehsildar Harminder Singh Gholia, Naib Tehsildar Harjot Singh, and Naib Tehsildar Pawan Kumar, handed over the cheque directly to Minister Mundian. He highlighted how such team efforts from revenue officers will speed up relief and rehabilitation for flood-hit Punjab residents.
CM Bhagwant Mann Pushes for Quick Flood Relief and High Compensation
Earlier in the day, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a key meeting with top officials to check on flood relief progress across the state. He connected with all Deputy Commissioners via video call, urging them to fast-track surveys on damaged crops, livestock, and homes.
Mann promised that Punjab will offer the highest flood compensation in India to affected families. Drawing from his own farming roots—he shared how his fields once drowned in floods—he emphasized understanding the real struggles. "This isn’t just talk," he said. "We’ve instructed DCs for fair, transparent assessments, unlike the past when farmers got tiny cheques of just Rs 26."
The CM outlined a clear plan: Special damage assessment reports, or girdawari, will wrap up in 30-40 days, with compensation payouts kicking off within a month. Farmers facing total crop loss get Rs 20,000 per acre. For lost livestock like cows or buffaloes, families receive Rs 37,500 each. Homes fully destroyed or unlivable due to floods qualify for 100% damage coverage.
Going beyond standard State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) rules—which cap aid at Rs 6,800—Punjab will boost it to Rs 40,000 per family. "Now’s not the time to hold back," Mann added. Relief cheques are prepared, and people should start getting them around Diwali.
Tragically, floods have claimed 55 lives so far. Compensation has reached 42 families already, and the government is working to settle claims for the rest, even in cases where heirs are hard to trace or bodies remain unrecovered.
This flood relief effort in Punjab shows the state’s commitment to standing by its people during tough times. As recovery ramps up, these initiatives bring hope to thousands rebuilding their lives.
