Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) scored a big win in a cross-state operation, arresting two key suspects in the shocking murder of Jugraj Singh, known as Jugga. The arrests happened in Kohima, Nagaland, thanks to teamwork with Batala Police, central agencies, and Nagaland Police.
DGP Gaurav Yadav shared the news on Sunday, crediting the push from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The suspects are cousins Harmanpreet Singh, aka Harman, and Gurpreet Singh, aka Gopi, both from Kaler village in Batala. They now face transit remand from a Nagaland court, and Punjab Police is bringing them back for intense questioning and court proceedings.
Jugga, a local from Cheema Khudi in Batala, got gunned down by unknown attackers on September 9 right in his village. Early probes point to gang rivalry as the motive, with the hit planned by overseas gangsters like Jaswinder Singh (Manu Agwan), Mohammad Yasin Akhtar (Jeeshan Akhtar), and Gopi Nawansheharia.
ADGP Promod Ban of the AGTF gave the scoop on the raid: Teams, led by DSP Rajan Parminder, followed solid tips and linked up with partners to zero in on the duo. They nabbed Harman and Gopi hiding out at Hotel Broadway in Kohima’s New Market area, Midland Colony.
Ban stressed how this bust shows Punjab Police’s determination to smash organized crime rings that span borders. Investigations continue, and more details could emerge as they grill the suspects.
Police already filed charges on September 9 at Shri Hargobindpura station in Batala, under sections 103, 61(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), plus sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. Stay tuned as this gang murder case unfolds.
