Union Minister L Murugan wrapped up his two-day visit to flood-hit areas in Rupnagar district, Punjab, on Saturday. He promised full support from the central government to farmers and villagers struggling after the floods.

Murugan traveled to villages like Shahpur Bela, Hariwal, Bhanu Pali, Bela Dhyani, and Nangal. He chatted directly with farmers, locals, and officials, getting a firsthand look at the damage. Walking through flooded spots, he even hopped on tractors and boats to see the real situation. Affected families shared their woes, from ruined homes to daily struggles.

In the fields, he checked out damaged crops like maize and paddy. Farmers told him how standing water is ruining their harvests, blocked irrigation channels are causing chaos, and washed-out roads are cutting off supplies of food and essentials. They worried that without quick help, the next planting season could face big risks too.

“Don’t worry,” Murugan told them. “Your troubles are our top priority. The Union government is right here with you. We’ll work hand-in-hand with local teams to speed up relief and get your lives back on track fast.”

Villagers also asked for a sturdy bridge to link their areas to main roads, so floods don’t trap them again. They said broken paths are blocking not just farming but also medical help and daily needs. Murugan took their requests seriously and assured action on infrastructure fixes to avoid future headaches.

He gave a shoutout to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of Rs 1,600 crore in aid for Punjab’s flood relief. High-level teams, guided by the PM, are on the ground assessing the damage, Murugan added.

The minister visited Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Nangal too, where he saw flood impacts and promised repairs. He handed out relief items and talked more with families.

Later, Murugan held a key review meeting with Rupnagar Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia, SSP Gulneet Singh, MLA Dinesh Chadha, and other officials. They discussed relief progress, medical support, supply distribution, and transport fixes. The deputy commissioner shared a detailed flood report for the district.

“Our focus is quick relief—getting materials, doctors, and basics to every family without delay,” Murugan said. “Central and state governments will team up to make sure no one misses out. We’ll speed up aid based on team reports and start long-term rehab plans for better flood preparedness.”

He urged officials to act fast, keep resource supplies steady, ensure fair distribution, deploy medical teams well, and prioritize farmers’ issues. The central government remains committed to helping Punjab’s flood-affected farmers and residents get through this tough time.
