In New Delhi on Monday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha met Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan to share warm Navratri greetings. This marked Chadha’s first sit-down with India’s 15th Vice-President, who also chairs the Rajya Sabha as the upper house of Parliament.
Chadha congratulated Radhakrishnan on taking up the top role and handed over a special replica of the Golden Temple as a gesture of goodwill. He voiced strong confidence that under Radhakrishnan’s guidance, the Rajya Sabha will keep pushing fair debates and inclusive decision-making.
The two leaders talked about keeping the Rajya Sabha running smoothly, key national issues, and challenges facing Punjab. That northern state just endured severe rain-triggered floods that submerged cities, wrecked villages and farms, displaced thousands, and claimed at least 30 lives.
Chadha stepped up to help his home state amid the crisis. He pledged Rs 3.25 crore from his MPLADS funds—the money MPs get for local development—to aid flood-hit areas in Gurdaspur and Amritsar. Of that, Rs 2.75 crore will fix and bolster flood-protection embankments in Gurdaspur, while Rs 50 lakh targets relief and rebuilding efforts in Amritsar.
In a recent video message, Chadha called on the central government to provide full support to Punjab’s flood victims. He also promised to bring the issue to Parliament’s floor for more action.
