Rahul Gandhi honored former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his 93rd birth anniversary Friday, sharing warm tributes on social media.

In a post on X, the Congress leader remembered Singh’s key role in shaping India’s economy. “On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji, I pay my humble respects to him,” Gandhi wrote. “His unwavering commitment to nation-building, his bold decisions for the poor and deprived, and his historic contribution to building a strong economy will continue to guide us. His simplicity, humility, and integrity are an inspiration for all of us.”

Born on September 26, 1932, Manmohan Singh stood out as a top economist. He led the Reserve Bank of India as governor from 1982 to 1985. Later, as India’s Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, Singh drove major economic reforms that opened up the country and gained global praise. He then served as India’s 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.

Many people still link Singh’s name to big changes during those years. His government launched key programs like the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, now known as MGNREGA, which created jobs in rural areas. They also passed the Right to Information Act, or RTI, in 2005, boosting transparency and helping citizens hold the government accountable.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge joined in the tributes, praising Singh as a man of humility and wisdom who always carried himself with quiet dignity.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the occasion, highlighting Singh’s important work for the nation throughout his public life.
