Rahul Gandhi spreading misinformation to destabilise democratic institutions, says Haryana CM

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini fired sharp criticism at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, calling out what he sees as a pattern of spreading fake news to attack India’s Election Commission and shake up the country’s democracy.

Speaking to reporters in Chandigarh, Saini accused Gandhi and the opposition of pushing lies and empty claims to erode people’s faith in the democratic system. “Their accusations against the Election Commission are totally false and misleading,” Saini said. “Rahul Gandhi keeps showing up unprepared, dropping statements that hurt democracy. He makes these wild claims over and over, then backs off—it’s become his habit.”

Saini went further, charging that Gandhi’s real goal is to shield infiltrators and urban Naxals. “Congress just wants to shatter public trust in democracy, stir up trouble, and destabilize India,” he added. “The BJP government stands firm to protect democracy, while Congress backs these infiltrators.”

To back his points, Saini highlighted facts from Gandhi’s recent claims. Gandhi tied a voter list mix-up in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections to the current Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. But Kumar didn’t take the job until February 2025—long after that election. “Why is he blaming the current CEC for something from 2023?” Saini asked, labeling the attack as factually wrong and purely political.

Saini also pointed to the Aland Assembly seat in Karnataka that Gandhi mentioned. Turns out, Congress actually won there in 2023. “He’s twisting the truth to fool people,” Saini said. An FIR is already in place over the issue, and the Election Commission handed over mobile numbers and IP addresses for the probe. Right now, Karnataka’s CID—under the Congress-led state government—is handling the investigation.

With a touch of sarcasm, Saini questioned Gandhi’s trust in his own party’s administration. “Doesn’t he believe in his own government’s probe?” He also called out Gandhi for naming specific people, suggesting their voter list removals tied to a certain religion. “This is dangerous talk that’s trying to inflame tensions in the name of religion,” Saini warned. “Congress is out to divide society along caste and religious lines—the whole country sees it.”

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s watch, Saini stressed, India’s democracy remains rock-solid. “A few failures are stirring chaos to cover their flops,” he said. “Maybe that’s their last trick to stay relevant in politics.”
