“Rahul Gandhi weakens, defames country”: Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Sinha on Congress MP’s speech in Colombia

Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has sharp words for Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Sinha accused Gandhi of weakening India, defaming the country abroad, and playing a sympathy card in politics. He called Gandhi the “prince of Congress,” who sides with those involved in terrorism, extremism, corruption, and nepotism. Sinha warned that such dynastic politicians, treating politics like a family estate, will never gain public support and could spark anarchy.

The controversy erupted after Rahul Gandhi’s recent speech in Bogota, Colombia, where he slammed the Narendra Modi government and the BJP for what he called an “attack on Indian democracy.” Speaking at EIA University on Thursday, Gandhi praised India’s strengths in engineering and healthcare, saying he’s optimistic about the nation’s future. But he stressed a major flaw: the democratic system is under threat, putting the country’s diverse traditions, religions, languages, and ideas at risk.

“India is basically a conversation between all these people and cultures,” Gandhi said. “Democracy creates space for different traditions, religions, and ideas to thrive. Without it, diversity can’t survive.”

BJP leaders quickly hit back, branding Gandhi’s remarks anti-India and a habit of insulting the nation on foreign soil. Senior BJP figure Ravi Shankar Prasad, a former Union Minister, held a press conference in Patna to defend the Modi government. He dismissed Gandhi’s claims of no democracy in India, pointing out the country’s vibrant electoral system.

“Rahul Gandhi is abroad and could have said something positive, but instead, he’s attacking India with baseless accusations,” Prasad said. “He abuses Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the nation’s development the most. It’s clear he just wants power.”

Prasad also mocked Gandhi’s past praise for China, noting India’s rise as the world’s fourth-largest economy and its path to third place. “If you keep insulting India abroad, voters won’t back you,” he added. “Your love for China shows—you say India can’t be a global power, but China can lead the world. We strongly condemn this.”

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal echoed the criticism, telling that Gandhi has made defaming India’s constitutional institutions a habit. “The people of India don’t approve of this behavior,” Meghwal said.

The row highlights ongoing tensions between the BJP and Congress, especially as Gandhi tours internationally and questions the health of Indian democracy amid the BJP’s dominance. BJP supporters argue his comments hurt national pride, while Gandhi frames them as a call to protect India’s pluralistic values.
