PM Modi’s Northeast Push: Boosting Development in Manipur and Mizoram

Union Minister Sanjay Seth has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visits to Mizoram and Manipur, calling them a big step for North East India. Seth highlighted how PM Modi always puts the people of the North East first. He even said these states will become shining examples—brand ambassadors—for Viksit Bharat 2047, India’s vision for a developed future by 2047.

Speaking to in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Seth shared his excitement. "PM Modi has instructed MPs and ministers to keep visiting the North East regularly," he said. He pointed out the huge change in the region. "Remember how things were before? Now, the North East is a top tourism hotspot. Take the new railway link to Aizawl—it’s nothing short of a revolution!" Seth added that the North East plays a key role in India’s overall growth, with all modern facilities rolling out to make it a development powerhouse.

PM Modi’s trip kicked off with big announcements in Manipur. On Saturday, he unveiled projects worth over Rs 1,200 crore in Imphal. Addressing the crowd, Modi promised these initiatives will make life easier, build stronger infrastructure, and create jobs for the youth. "Thousands of crores in projects are launching today to transform Manipur," he said.

Two standout projects caught everyone’s attention. The Manipur Urban Roads Project, with over Rs 3,600 crore invested, will upgrade roads in Imphal. Then there’s the Manipur Infotech Development Project, costing more than Rs 500 crore, set to spark innovation and new opportunities. "These will power up Manipur’s roads and brighten its future," Modi noted.

He also reflected on India’s post-independence growth. "Big cities in the west and south boomed back then, opening doors for young people. Now, it’s the North East’s turn to shine," Modi said, urging the youth to grab these fresh chances.

But the visit wasn’t just about new builds. PM Modi met victims of the ethnic violence that’s gripped Manipur since May 2023—the first such meeting in two years. The clashes between Kuki tribal groups and the majority Meitei community have displaced many families. Modi listened to internally displaced persons (IDPs) who lost their homes.

He reassured everyone that the government is working non-stop to bring back peace. "We want stability in Manipur, secure lives for its people, and normalcy for those in relief camps," Modi said. As a key move, the Centre has approved 7,000 new houses for the displaced to help them rebuild.

Modi’s tour continued with more action. In Manipur’s Churachandpur district, he laid the foundation for projects worth over Rs 7,300 crore. Over in Aizawl, Mizoram, he kicked off developments totaling more than Rs 9,000 crore. These tie into India’s Act East Policy and the North East Economic Corridor, putting Mizoram at the heart of regional progress.

A highlight was dedicating Mizoram’s first railway line—the Bairabi-Sairang express—to the nation. Modi called it a game-changer. "This isn’t just tracks; it’s a lifeline for transport. It will transform lives and livelihoods in Mizoram. Farmers and businesses here can now reach markets across India easily," he explained.

With these steps, PM Modi’s North East focus is clear: from railways and roads to peace efforts and jobs, the region is gearing up for a brighter tomorrow.
