Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the bullet train project site in Saroli, Surat, on Friday to check the latest construction progress. He took a close look at India’s first high-speed rail turnout, a key feature that lets trains switch tracks safely at speeds up to 320 kilometers per hour.
Talking to reporters, Vaishnaw shared exciting updates on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor. “The first section to go operational will run from Surat to Bilimora by 2027,” he said. “I inspected the station and track work—it’s moving along really well. We’re bringing in several new technologies for the tracks that are brand new for this bullet train project. These innovations will help other rail projects across India too.”
Vaishnaw pointed out the smart design at Surat station. Every train will stop here, with two tracks on the sides and two in the center. “There are platforms heading toward Mumbai and Ahmedabad, plus a massive concourse in the middle,” he explained. For the high-speed rail turnouts, engineers designed them specially to handle 320, 330, or even 340 km/h speeds. “When tracks connect at those velocities, there can’t be any gaps—that’s crucial for safety,” he added.
At the Saroli site, workers are building a modern bullet train station packed with passenger-friendly features. Expect waiting lounges, nurseries for kids, clean restrooms, retail shops, and shopping areas. To make getting around easy, the station includes multiple lifts and escalators.
The team put extra thought into helping elderly passengers, people with disabilities, and families with young children. You’ll find clear signs everywhere, info kiosks for quick questions, and public announcement systems to keep everyone updated.
The bullet train project is speeding ahead, thanks to Japanese technology for the track turnouts and overall construction. Officials say this know-how will boost other big infrastructure efforts in India too.
