In Jaipur, the vote count for the Anta (Baran) Assembly by‑election in Rajasthan is still in motion, but Congress’s Pramod Jain “Bhaya” is already pulling ahead. After 14 rounds of counting, he has 51,012 votes – a clear lead over Independent candidate Naresh Meena’s 39,692 and BJP’s Morpal Suman’s 38,634.
So far more than 100,000 votes have been tallied, and six rounds remain. The tallies are being read at Boys PG College, where 14 counting tables raised 20 rounds in total.
Naresh Meena arrived at the center almost three hours after voting began. As Bhaya’s advantage grew, Meena stepped outside to sit with his supporters. Meanwhile, Congress workers threw off firecrackers in celebration of their frontrunner’s performance.
The by‑election saw an impressive 80.21 % voter turnout on November 11, with fifteen candidates competing for the seat. Outside the counting hall, a large crowd gathered – thousands of Meena fans were visible, prompting a boost in police presence to keep the area calm.
Early in the morning, Bhaya’s supporters poured into his home at Shriji Chowk, Mumbai’s south‑west, some even kneeling to offer blessings. Prior to counting, Bhaya and his wife spent time at a cowshed, performing seva before proclaiming his confidence in a win.
Suman also arrived early, swearing that victory was within reach. Local supporters of both men kept the atmosphere charged with slogans and chants throughout.
Congress veteran Ashok Gehlot, the former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, praised the trend, promising a big win for his party.
The final results will be announced after the last six rounds of counting complete.
