Rajasthan govt to implement online weighing, GPS, and vehicle tracking

Jaipur, Oct 17 — Rajasthan’s mining department is rolling out a full digital makeover for the state’s mineral industry by the end of the year. The plan includes online weighing scales, real‑time vehicle tracking and GPS‑based monitoring to keep all mining activities clear, accurate and paperfree.

The move follows complaints from mine owners about faulty weighing, overcharging by royalty contractors and irregular truck routes that cost the state millions. “We’re cutting out the paperwork and turning every step online,” said Principal Secretary T. Ravikant. “If the data is captured once, there’s no room for error or fraud.”

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the department is launching 22 digital modules in phases. Some – such as online plan approvals and permitting – are already live. The new Radio‑Frequency Identification (RFID) system will track every load, record weights on the spot and feed the information straight into the state’s revenue system.

“We want mine owners to submit their plans, get approvals, and pay royalties from their phones, not by hopping from office to office,” Ravikant added. The IT team has also built new mobile apps for field staff, and senior officials will keep a close eye on how the tools perform on the road.

“We’re making the mining sector truly paperless,” said Director of Mines Mahavir Prasad Meena. “This means faster service for businesses and fewer holes in the government’s revenue stream.”

The department’s rapid upgrade comes after a review meeting led by Naomi Shaktawat and others, who confirmed that the remaining modules are almost ready and that monitoring tools will be fine‑tuned for field use.

With digital tools in place, Rajasthan aims to have a dispute‑free, transparent mining environment by the end of the year, boosting confidence for investors and protecting the state’s mineral wealth.
