During the Zero‑Hour session in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Hanuman Beniwal—national president of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party and MP from Nagaur—raised a serious humanitarian issue that grabbed the attention of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He warned that 61 Indian citizens are currently stuck in Russia and need to be brought home safely.
Beniwal explained that young people from Rajasthan and other states had originally gone to Russia on study and work visas. They were later deceived by agents who sent them into the war zone between Russia and Ukraine. He named several of the affected youths, including Manoj Singh Shekhawat, Ajay Kumar, Sandeep Sunda, Mahavir Prasad and Karamchand, saying they have been forced into military operations for months and have not been heard from for the past three to four months.
He added that the families of these missing Indians have already staged protests in Delhi, first outside the Ministry of External Affairs and later at Jantar Mantar on November 3 and December 1, demanding their safe return. Beniwal said he has formally written to the Ministry of External Affairs about the crisis.
Calling the situation “extremely sensitive and alarming,” he urged the government to act immediately, to engage Russian officials directly, to safeguard the stranded Indians, and to arrange their evacuation as quickly as possible. He also called for harsh legal repercussions against the human‑trafficking agents who posed as job recruiters, labeling the crime a grave offence that must be stopped right away.
