Congress leaders in Haryana have made some big moves to shake up the party. On September 29, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge named Rao Narender Singh as the new state party chief, replacing Udai Bhan. At the same time, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda steps in as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP).
This comes nearly a year after Haryana’s assembly elections, where Congress fell short despite high hopes of grabbing power from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Hooda already held the CLP leader role in the last assembly, so he’s no stranger to steering the opposition.
Internal fights have plagued the Haryana Congress, and many blame those rifts for the party’s tough loss in the polls. These fresh appointments could help unify the team and gear up for future battles in the state.
Hooda hasn’t held back on national issues either. Just recently, he slammed the Union government over its latest GST reforms push. “This government brought in GST itself—why didn’t they fix things seven years ago?” Hooda asked. He questioned whether they’ll refund all the GST collected so far and stressed the need for bigger relief to truly help everyday people across India.
