PM Modi’s Historic Visit to Manipur: A Step Towards Peace and Progress
Ranchi, Jharkhand: BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Manipur as a game-changer for the state. He called it a "red-letter day" in Manipur’s history, highlighting how the warm welcome and huge crowds at the PM’s event signal the people’s strong wish for peace.
Speaking to on Saturday, Shah Deo shared his excitement. "Today marks a special chapter for Manipur," he said. "PM Modi announced big development projects worth thousands of crores. He even inaugurated India’s second-largest bridge, which stands taller than the iconic Qutub Minar. The grand reception and massive turnout at his rally clearly show that folks in Manipur crave peace and progress."
PM Modi’s Northeast tour kicked off in Aizawl, Mizoram, where he launched and laid the foundation for projects worth over Rs 9,000 crore. He also flagged off three new express trains to boost connectivity: the Sairang (Aizawl)-Delhi Rajdhani Express, Sairang-Guwahati Express, and Sairang-Kolkata Express. These moves aim to link the region better with the rest of India.
From there, Modi headed to Imphal and then Churachandpur in Manipur. This was his first trip to the state since ethnic clashes broke out in May 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The violence has hit Manipur hard, damaging its economy, breaking social ties, and shaking up politics.
In Churachandpur, PM Modi met leaders from various ethnic groups. He urged them to drop violence and join hands for peace. "A new dawn of hope and confidence is rising in Manipur," he declared. Addressing the crowd, he added, "I appeal to everyone—let’s choose peace to chase your dreams and build a secure future for your kids. The Indian government stands firmly with Manipur’s people. I promise my full support."
Modi also visited relief camps to talk with those affected by the conflict. "Manipur has always been a land of hope, but it faced tough times with violence," he said. "After meeting camp residents, I truly believe ummeed aur vishwas ki nayi subah Manipur mein dastak de rahi hai—a new morning of hope and trust is knocking on Manipur’s doors."
The Prime Minister expressed happiness over recent peace deals with several ethnic groups. "Peace drives development everywhere," he noted. "Over the past 11 years, we’ve resolved many Northeast conflicts. People now prioritize progress over fights. I’m glad talks are underway with hill and valley groups. This is our government’s push for peace through dialogue, respect, and understanding."
Modi’s visit comes as a boost for Manipur amid its ongoing ethnic tensions, with hopes it sparks more reconciliation and growth in the Northeast.
