Manipur Governor Praises RIMS Imphal on Its 54th Foundation Day
In a heartwarming address at the 54th foundation day of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla celebrated the institute’s incredible rise as a top medical hub in India. Speaking on Sunday, he said RIMS has grown into a pillar of excellence over the decades, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the country’s leading medical institutions.
The event wasn’t just a party—it was a time to look back at RIMS’s amazing journey since it started as the Regional Medical College in 1972. That’s 53 years of non-stop service to medical education and healthcare in Northeast India. "This day calls for both celebration and reflection on how RIMS has transformed lives," Bhalla shared.
Bhalla spotlighted RIMS’s strong track record in training doctors and specialists. He praised the institute for shaping generations of healthcare heroes who don’t just treat illnesses—they rebuild trust and protect lives. "Doctors carry a sacred duty to safeguard humanity," he added.
Looking ahead, the Governor urged RIMS to ramp up research and innovation, especially on health issues unique to the Northeast region. He also pushed for stronger ties with global partners to take the institute even further.
The Governor gave a big shoutout to the tireless efforts of doctors, nurses, and staff at RIMS, calling it a true beacon of medical excellence and a place of healing. During the celebrations, he handed out prizes to over 50 top students from various medical programs. He even launched the institute’s annual magazine, Remedy.
The day also saw the release of the RIMS Medical Society’s journal and the introduction of its new office-bearers. With 125 MBBS seats and 166 postgraduate spots across 25 specialties—including super-specialty courses—RIMS keeps producing skilled doctors year after year.
Since its start, the institute has trained more than 4,000 doctors, over 2,300 specialists, and countless other healthcare pros who serve the nation. Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, RIMS Director, joined other dignitaries at the event, making it a memorable gathering for everyone involved in Manipur’s medical community.
