Bettiah, Bihar – BJP Member of Parliament Sanjay Jaiswal received chilling death‑threat calls on Oct. 23, demanding ₹10 crore to save his son, doctor Shivam Jaiswal. The cold‑blooded warning shook the town and put police on high alert.
The attackers rang the MP from two different numbers, saying: “Pay ₹10 crore or Shivam will be killed.” Jaiswal immediately went to the Bettiah city police station and filed a complaint the next day. Sadar Superintendent of Police (SDPO) Vivek Deep said the FIR has been registered and the police are “focusing on the extortion angle.” “Investigations are underway, raids are being planned, and arrest is expected soon,” he added.
Dr. Shivam Jaiswal is now under extra police protection. The whole police force is working day and night to locate the gang. The investigators are checking call records, tracking mobile locations, and probing local crime circles.
Just days earlier, Jaiswal had publicly criticized RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, accusing him of trying to “steal votes from yesterday’s times” while declaring that electronic voting machines (EVMs) empower ordinary voters. Some in Bettiah wonder if the threats are tied to that attack. Police, however, see the case as straightforward extortion, not a political vendetta.
Security has tightened around Jaiswal’s home and his son’s clinic. CCTV feeds are being reviewed and plainclothes officers patrol the area. Local residents express unease. “An MP getting such threats shows how bold criminals have become,” one shopkeeper told reporters.
Jaiswal urged calm among his supporters. “I trust the police. Justice will be done,” he said. Police officers echoed that no one can threaten an elected leader and stay unpunished.
The investigation continues as authorities close in on the culprits behind the ₹10 crore demand.
