ACB Raids Uncover Rs 2 Crore Cash from Hyderabad Electricity Official

In a major crackdown on corruption, Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) raided the home and properties of an electricity department official in Hyderabad on Tuesday. They seized a whopping Rs 2 crore in cash, along with gold jewellery and documents showing huge assets that don’t match his salary.

The official, Ambedkar, works as an Assistant Divisional Engineer (ADE) in the Manikonda area. ACB sleuths suspect he built up wealth way beyond his known income sources. Starting early Tuesday morning, 15 teams from the ACB searched multiple spots linked to Ambedkar and his relatives across the city.

During the raids, officials found three plots owned by Ambedkar, plus a building in the posh Gachibowli area. They grabbed gold jewellery too and are now valuing it. The team is also digging into property papers to figure out the full extent of his assets. This disproportionate assets case highlights growing concerns over corruption in government jobs in Telangana.

This isn’t the first big bust by the ACB recently. Just last month, on August 19, they uncovered assets worth over Rs 5 crore from another official—a Tahsildar named Bandi Nageswara Rao from Warangal Fort Mandal in Warangal district. Searches at seven locations tied to him and his family revealed a house valued at Rs 1.15 crore, 17.10 acres of agricultural land worth Rs 1.43 crore, 70 tola of gold ornaments, 1.791 kg of silver, 23 wristwatches, two four-wheelers, one two-wheeler, and other household items. The total value of these disproportionate assets came to about Rs 5.02 crore, according to ACB estimates.

Adding to the string of anti-corruption actions, on September 9, the ACB caught a woman town planning officer in Hyderabad red-handed taking a Rs 4 lakh bribe. Maniharika, from the Narsingi municipal office, demanded Rs 10 lakh from a man named Vinod to approve his Land Regularisation Scheme (LRS) application. Vinod tipped off the ACB, who set up a trap and nabbed her in the act.

These back-to-back raids show the ACB’s push against bribery and illegal wealth in Telangana’s government sectors. Stay tuned for updates as investigations continue.
