In Nagpur, India, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) gears up for a big milestone. The organization plans to celebrate its centenary year from Vijayadashami in 2025 through Vijayadashami in 2026. This marks 100 years since its founding in 1925 by Dr. KB Hedgewar right here in Nagpur.

RSS spokesperson Sunil Ambekar shared the exciting news during a press conference on Monday. “The RSS is celebrating 100 years of its founding on Vijayadashami this year,” he said. “The centenary year will run from this year’s Vijayadashami (2025) to the next one (2026). This year’s festivities will kick off the whole celebration.”

When asked about the RSS’s vision for India’s next century, Ambekar painted a positive picture. He envisions a strong nation where every citizen feels proud, safe, and contributes meaningfully on the world stage. “Everyone in the country wants an India that we are proud of, where everyone is happy, and that plays its role globally,” Ambekar explained. “The Sangh will do whatever it takes to make this happen.”

Ambekar also highlighted the importance of shaking off old colonial mindsets and building self-reliance. He stressed that families form the heart of the next generation’s values. “We will spread this awareness across society,” he added. “India gained independence years ago, but we need to free ourselves completely from that colonized thinking. So, we’ll push for self-dependency and encourage people to step up with their civic duties. The Sangh’s work will focus on this moving forward.”

Over the years, the RSS has grown into one of the world’s largest voluntary groups. It started with daily shakhas—local gatherings—in Nagpur and now spans thousands across India, with a strong presence in communities abroad. This centenary year promises to honor that journey while looking ahead to a brighter future for India. ()
