Ruling BJP, Opposition Congress jointly loot Goa’s resources, alleges Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Delhi chief minister, turned up in Goa on Saturday to launch a new AAP office. He used the occasion to call out both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress, saying the two parties work together to enrich themselves at the expense of Goans.

Kejriwal said that for the last 60 years, only a handful of families have dominated Goa’s government machinery. “These two parties run elections for their families and to loot Goa, not for the people’s welfare,” he said. He added that the ordinary citizens have no voice in how the state is run.

The AAP leader also criticized Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for allegedly wanting to bring his wife into the Assembly by fielding her in the Mayem constituency. “We won’t give tickets to a leader’s wife or relative,” Kejriwal said. He pointed out that both the BJP and Congress depend on dynastic politics and that leaders often switch sides after a government is formed.

During the speech, Kejriwal talked about a complaint he heard on a flight to Goa—that Congress president Amit Patkar owns mines in the state and can only operate them with the chief minister’s blessing. He said the two parties have formed a joint business to plunder state resources, leaving Goans short on hospitals, schools and good roads.

“Public money should fix these problems, but it ends up in the pockets of these two parties,” Kejriwal warned. He urged voters to imagine a different system for Goa.

Earlier, AAP chief Atishi Maharaj said the party is ready to win the 2027 Assembly elections in Goa. She claimed that many people are scared to approach BJP lawmakers because they fear intimidation, and she promised that an AAP government would bring a “Delhi model” of governance, so citizens could freely and fearlessly speak to their representatives.
