In Jaipur on Wednesday, veteran Congress leader Sachin Pilot urged the Election Commission of India to scrub the voter lists and keep the process clear and fair.
Pilot said the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is misusing constitutional bodies, turning the EC into a tool for political gain. He called out claims that Congress and the opposition are stopping the list‑cleaning effort.
“We need the voter list cleaned, with no wrongful additions or deletions,” Pilot told reporters. “The Congress, Rahul Gandhi, and the INDIA bloc are wrongly accused of opposing the exercise. We’re worried about the haste and intent that saw similar actions in Bihar.”
The former Rajasthan CM highlighted that the Election Commission must stay neutral. “Using the EC to declare living people dead, add deceased names and, in some cases, create up to 250 votes for a single house is unacceptable.” Pilot said Congress will send workers and MLAs to their home districts to spot irregularities and ensure every valid vote counts.
He pointed out that despite evidence of voter fraud in Haryana, Karnataka and Maharashtra, the EC has not opened investigations. “Instead, the Commission asks Rahul to file an affidavit. The EC must stay free of ideology and conduct a fair inquiry,” Pilot added.
Pilot announced a major Congress event in Delhi later this month, part of a nationwide campaign to stop vote manipulation. “We’ve launched a signature drive asking those involved in voter fraud to step down. This will run across the country and end in Delhi,” he said.
