In Ahmedabad, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel spoke to more than 3,000 members of the Nomedic and Denotified Tribes at the State‑Level Grand Convention on Sunday. Patel praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking strong steps to lift the “Antyodaya” – the poorest and most marginalized people in India.
Patel said that once, people wondered when these communities would see progress. “Today,” he said, “our prime minister’s vision of ‘Sauno Saath, Sauno Vikas, Sauno Vishwas, Sauno Prayas’ is becoming reality.” He added that every policy and programme he has introduced focuses on the smallest and most vulnerable, aiming to build a country that benefits the average citizen and the middle class.
Education got a big boost in his speech. Over the past three years, the state has awarded Rs 297 crore in scholarships to more than 270 000 children from Nomedic and Denotified Tribes. It has also disbursed Rs 105 crore in loans to 8 448 beneficiaries. “Our students are learning and moving forward,” Patel said. He encouraged women and mothers from these tribes to join self‑help groups and become economically independent.
Patel linked these efforts to India’s larger goals of a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India) and an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self‑reliant India). He urged people to buy and sell more local and indigenous goods during upcoming festivals, praising recent GST reforms that benefit everyday consumers.
The minister also highlighted the state’s “Ghar nu Ghar” initiative, which guarantees permanent homes for people of these tribes. “This programme was started under the former chief minister Narendra Modi,” Bhanuben Babariya, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, noted. She added that Gujarat formed a dedicated corporation in 2015 to support 40 S&E‑backward tribes—28 nomadic and 12 denotified.
During the event, Padma Shri awardee Bhanubhai Chitara received a special honour from Patel.
Overall, Gujarat is pushing for inclusive growth and stronger community support, aiming to bring every citizen into the mainstream and strengthen India’s national development agenda.
