Deadly Scooter Crash on Delhi-Meerut Expressway
A tragic accident claimed the life of a scooter rider on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area on Thursday. The rider collided with a Honda City car on the flyover, fell off, and died on the spot. The car driver fled the scene, leaving the scooter completely wrecked. Police are now investigating this hit-and-run case to track down the culprit.
BMW Hit-and-Run Kills Finance Ministry Official on Delhi’s Ring Road
Just days earlier, another fatal road accident shook Delhi on Sunday. Around 1:30 pm, a speeding BMW car rammed into a motorcycle on Ring Road near Dhaula Kuan, killing one person and injuring another. The victim was Navjot Singh, a Deputy Secretary in the Finance Ministry, who was riding pillion with his wife.
Eyewitnesses say a woman drove the BMW that hit their bike. After the crash, she and her husband quickly grabbed a taxi to take the injured wife to the hospital instead of using their car. Delhi Police later questioned the driver, 38-year-old Gaganpreet Makkad. She explained her panic led her to head straight to a familiar hospital— the one where her kids stayed during the COVID-19 pandemic— rather than the nearest one.
BMW Driver Arrested in Delhi Road Accident Case
Delhi Police didn’t waste time and arrested Gaganpreet Makkad on Monday for her role in the BMW accident. The case has drawn attention due to the high-profile victim and questions over the driver’s actions post-crash.
In a recent court hearing on Wednesday, the Patiala House Court in Delhi gave police until Saturday to argue against her bail plea. The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) extended Gaganpreet Kaur’s judicial custody until September 27. Police have already submitted their reply to the bail application.
The court also issued a notice on a separate application to preserve CCTV footage from the accident scene. This will come up for hearing tomorrow, filed by the accused’s lawyer.
During the bail arguments, senior advocate Ramesh Gupta defended Gaganpreet Kaur, calling it a straightforward road accident. He argued that charges under sections for culpable homicide not amounting to murder don’t fit the case at all.
These back-to-back Delhi road accidents highlight the growing dangers on busy routes like the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Ring Road. Authorities urge drivers to stay alert and follow traffic rules to prevent such heartbreaking incidents. Stay tuned for updates on the investigations and court proceedings.
