Search on for three men washed away in Hyderabad after heavy rains

Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc in Hyderabad: Search On for Three Missing in Flooded Drains

Heavy rains battered Hyderabad and nearby areas on Sunday evening, turning streets into rivers and sparking a series of tragedies. Search teams are racing against time to find three young men swept away by floodwaters in city drains, while other incidents have left families grieving and hospitals busy.

In the heart of Hyderabad’s Habeeb Nagar, two men—Arjun (26) and his relative Ramu (25)—got caught in raging waters of Afzal Sagar nala. The duo vanished amid the chaos of the downpour. Teams from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and local police are combing the area on Monday, determined to bring them home.

Not far away, in Secunderabad’s Vinobha Nagar under Musheerabad, 24-year-old Dinesh met a similar fate. He was sitting on a retaining wall near a nala when it suddenly gave way, pulling him into the swirling flood. Rescue workers continue their efforts, but the strong currents make the task tough.

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan rushed to Habeeb Nagar to check on the operations. He met with officials on the ground and pushed for faster action. The missing men’s families are heartbroken and urging the government for urgent help. "These were our breadwinners," one relative shared, pleading for support in their time of need.

The rains didn’t stop at floods. In Vattinagulapally near Gachibowli, a wall at an under-construction convention hall crumbled, killing 24-year-old worker Sekhar Mandal and injuring four others. The injured are now in hospital, with one in critical condition. Police are investigating the collapse amid the stormy weather.

Hyderabad saw a whopping 12 cm of rain in just hours, flooding roads across the city and Secunderabad, plus parts of Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts. Traffic ground to a halt as waterlogged streets caused major snarls, leaving commuters stranded.

Tragedy struck again on Monday morning on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Abdullapurmet. A car carrying eight IT professionals flipped over, killing 28-year-old Sowmya Reddy, an Infosys employee, and injuring seven others. The group was heading back to Hyderabad after a visit to Sarala Maisamma Temple in Choutuppal.

Police suspect the driver lost control due to overspeeding on the wet road. They’ve filed a case and started probing the crash. The injured techies are receiving treatment, and authorities are reminding drivers to slow down during rains.

As Hyderabad recovers from the heavy rainfall fury, officials warn of more showers ahead. Stay safe, folks—keep an eye on weather updates and avoid flooded spots. The city’s emergency teams are on high alert to handle any more rain-related emergencies.
