Indian Army troops and Assam Rifles, working closely with Manipur Police, launched a series of targeted operations in Manipur’s Tengnoupal, Imphal East, and Chandel districts from September 19 to 28. These intelligence-led efforts nabbed four insurgent cadres from hill and valley-based groups and uncovered eight weapons, along with narcotics and other combat gear.

The operations kicked off on September 19 when Assam Rifles caught two PREPAK members in Toronglaobi Awang Leikai. The duo was linked to extortion rackets, and troops seized two mobile phones from them.

Two days later, on September 21, a joint raid in Teijang village on the hillside turned up a major weapons haul. Security forces grabbed a modified AK-47 rifle with its magazine, an INSAS rifle with magazine, a 9mm pistol with magazine, two single-barrel guns, one .22 rifle with magazine, another .22 rifle without, a three-foot mortar, and 20 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

On September 22, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police set up a checkpoint in Tengnoupal. During a detailed search, they recovered about 120,000 WY tablets worth Rs 3.6 crore— a big blow to drug traffickers.

The next day, September 23, Assam Rifles teamed up with local women’s groups along the Indo-Myanmar border to fight psychotropic substances and illicit liquor. Their search netted 185 bottles and 45 liters of homemade booze, helping curb the spread in border areas.

Also on September 23, based on tips about overground workers (OGWs) smuggling valley-based insurgents, troops hit Toronglaobi Awang Leikai in the valley. They seized a scooter and a mobile phone during the raid.

Patrols heated up on September 24 when Assam Rifles and Wangoo Police spotted an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing over 8 kg during a joint area domination exercise. Packed with TNT, splinters, screws, and a detonator, the bomb got safely destroyed on the spot, preventing potential harm.

Intelligence pointed to extortion by the Kangleipak Communist Party (People War Group) in Imphal East, so on September 25, Assam Rifles and Imphal East commandos kept watch and swooped in to arrest one cadre.

That same day, in a team-up with the Narcotics Control Bureau, they ran a mobile vehicle check and seized 67.26 kg of WY tablets valued at Rs 53.8 crore—another major win against drug smuggling in Manipur.

The momentum continued on September 26 with a follow-up raid in Kumbi Kangsoibi Wangma area. Ground intel and tech surveillance led Assam Rifles to nab one PLA cadre in Kumbi, a valley spot.

These back-to-back successes by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police show their strong push to restore peace and tackle insurgency, weapons, and narcotics threats in Manipur.
