In a fiery speech on Tuesday, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla slammed the Congress-led government in Karnataka for constant tax hikes and price increases. He called it a “khata khat loot and jhooth” administration—quick to loot and full of lies—that’s showing an anti-Hindu bias.
Poonawalla pointed to the latest move: raising bus fares on Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) routes right before the Dasara festival. Hindus flock from Bengaluru to Mysuru for the celebrations, he said, and this hike will hit festival-goers hard. “They’re looting ordinary people during Dasara and funneling the money through scams straight to 10 Janpath,” he told , referring to Congress headquarters.
The criticism didn’t stop there. Poonawalla blasted the Karnataka government for ignoring basic infrastructure, especially the pothole-riddled roads in Bengaluru. He tied it to a heartbreaking incident: a 22-year-old student named Tanushree died Tuesday after a tipper truck crushed her near Budigere Cross. She was swerving to dodge a pothole on Kempegowda International Airport Road, police said. The tragedy happened under Avalahalli Traffic Police Station’s watch.
“It’s not a shop of love—it’s a shop of death run by Congress,” Poonawalla fumed, quoting Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s earlier remark that “even God can’t fix potholes.” He accused the government of delivering corruption and danger instead of safe roads, leaving Karnataka with “pothole governance.”
The pothole problem in Bengaluru has sparked widespread anger against the state government. Opposition parties like BJP hammer Congress for administrative failures, while ministers insist it’s overblown. They point fingers at the previous BJP regime for the mess.
Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar addressed this after paying respects to author S L Bhyrappa’s remains at Ravindra Kalakshetra. “We’re serious about tackling Bengaluru’s potholes,” he told reporters. “The chief minister has already released Rs 750 crore to fill them up—blame the old BJP misrule for starting this.”
