In New Delhi on Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a sharp attack on PDP chief Mehbooba Mu fti, saying she was making controversial remarks just to stay in the headlines after the public had ignored her voice.
Mu fti, who once served as Jammu and Kashmir’s chief minister, warned that youth across India are rising in protests because they feel the system has failed them. She said, “Gen Z is confronting the raw truth that the system has let them down.” She added that the protests are not mere noise but a “cry for survival.”
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Ali Khatana told that Mu fti is “trying to keep her party afloat.” He called her statements “anything she can say to be in the headlines.”
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh also slammed Mu fti and the opposition INDIA bloc. “India’s Gen Z is building a self‑reliant, growing country,” he said. “The Prime Minister has set an agenda for the younger generation, and that agenda is driving India’s fastest economic growth.”
Mu fti’s own message on X (formerly Twitter) urged resistance: “From Uttarakhand to Ladakh and across the border in Kashmir, Gen Z is rising. When your future seems bleak, you fight. This is not just a rebellion; it’s a demand for accountability, justice, opportunity and dignity.” She also shared videos of protests calling for “Azadi,” claiming they wake up both India and neighboring Pakistan.
The BJP’s criticism of Mu fti reflects a broader political debate about the role of youth protests and the accountability of leaders in India.
