Shiv Sena’s Saamana Takes Sharp Dig at PM Modi on His 75th Birthday Over Poverty and Jobs

Mumbai, September 17: On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, the Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece Saamana didn’t hold back. In a biting editorial, it questioned the nationwide celebrations and urged Modi and his supporters to think about India’s real struggles like poverty and unemployment.

The piece points out that while it’s fine to celebrate your leader’s birthday, is the country in such great shape that everyone should join in? Modi has led India for 11 years now—what has he and the BJP delivered? Saamana asks readers to reflect on that instead of just popping champagne.

At the heart of the criticism is India’s poverty crisis. The Centre hands out free ration to 80 crore people every month under schemes like PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. Saamana slams this as proof that more than half of India’s 140 crore population lives below the poverty line. "Modi boasts about giving 10 kg of free grain to keep their kitchens running, but is this something to be proud of for a nation like ours?" the editorial questions. It argues this handout culture shows deep failures in fighting poverty, not success.

Unemployment gets even harsher treatment. The opposition wants to mark PM Modi’s birthday as "Unemployment Day," Saamana reports. Remember Modi’s big promise in 2014? He vowed to create two crore jobs every year. But after 10 years, the government hasn’t even managed 10 lakh jobs, the paper claims. "Self-reliant India sounds great on paper, but unemployment has skyrocketed," it says.

The editorial doesn’t stop there—it takes a swipe at cronyism too. It highlights how Amit Shah’s son, Jay Shah, became BCCI president overnight, getting control of billions in cricket funds and a cushy role. Meanwhile, millions of Indian youth chase jobs that never come. Saamana also revives its old charge against the government favoring industrialist Gautam Adani. "Modi’s friend gets airports, government companies, and prime land for free— even Mumbai’s skies are in Adani’s hands," it alleges.

This sharp commentary from Saamana comes right in the middle of the BJP’s 15-day "Seva Pakhwada" campaign. The party is using the event to highlight Modi’s contributions through service activities across India, marking his milestone birthday in a big way. But Saamana’s words remind everyone that not all views are festive—debates on PM Modi 75th birthday celebrations are heating up amid ongoing talks on unemployment in India and poverty alleviation efforts.
