Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan celebrated the latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday, dubbing them a “Bachat Utsav” – or Savings Festival – for everyday Indians.

Chouhan explained how these changes slash prices on daily essentials, farming tools, and clothes, putting more money back in people’s pockets. Speaking to , he tied the updates to the festive spirit of Navratri, saying, “The Goddess is showering her blessings, but the Modi government has showered gifts. Starting today, daily-use products for the common man are more affordable. Agri products cost less, edible items are cheaper, and clothes have better prices. This is Bachat Utsav – people will save money and spend it elsewhere.”

Farmers stand to gain big from the new GST rates on equipment. Chouhan pointed out savings of up to Rs 23,000 on small tractors, Rs 63,000 on larger ones, and a whopping Rs 1.87 lakh on combine harvesters. These cuts make modern farming tools easier to afford, boosting rural economies.

The minister congratulated everyone on the reforms and pushed for widespread awareness. “Congratulations to the people,” he said. “Our MLAs, MPs, and workers will head to markets to spread the word on these GST rates, ensuring the benefits reach everyone without getting stuck.”

Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call, Chouhan urged shoppers and traders to back Indian-made goods. “As per PM Modi’s message, we should buy Swadeshi products. Traders should sell Swadeshi,” he added, promoting local manufacturing amid the festival season.

Earlier that day, Modi himself praised the “next generation GST” changes during a public event in Itanagar. He called it a “double bonanza” for citizens, kicking off the GST Bachat Utsav right as festivals begin across India.
