Siddaramaiah to host dinner for Congress MLAs, may drop 15 ministers in cabinet reshuffle

Bengaluru‑based Congress leaders gathered for a special dinner on October 13, hosted by Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The meeting was arranged as the state party talks about a cabinet reshuffle and possible leadership changes.

Sources close to the chief minister said the reshuffle will probably wait until after the Bihar elections. Siddaramaiah wants to make it clear that he will stay on as chief minister regardless of the shake‑up.

During the dinner, he spoke with AICC General Secretary and congress MP K.C. Venugopal. He has also promised to speak with party chief Rahul Gandhi about the plan. The favoured move is to drop about 15 ministers and bring new faces into the cabinet, a proposal he discussed with Venugopal.

Earlier, the high‑command had asked Siddaramaiah to remove only eight to ten ministers; the chief minister reportedly disagreed. His strategy, per party insiders, is that a large reshuffle will signal stability at the top.

At an event celebrating the Valmiki festival, Siddaramaiah assured that a minister from the Valmiki community would be included after the reshuffle. The state’s Home Minister G. Parameshwara said the final decision rests with the party’s high‑command. He told reporters the rumours were unconfirmed and the chief minister had set no timeline. Parameshwara added that while the Valmiki community demands ministerial representation, the final call will still come from the party leaders.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president D.K. Shivakumar’s supporters are eyeing a leadership change in November, referencing a power‑sharing deal that would see Siddaramaiah step down halfway through the term. Some MLAs from Shivakumar’s camp have made the expectations public.

Siddaramaiah is using the cabinet reshuffle as a way to counter those claims and keep his position secure.
