“Sir M Visvesvaraya’s brilliance left indelible mark on India’s engineering landscape”: PM Modi extends greetings on Engineers’ Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off Engineers’ Day celebrations on Monday by paying tribute to the legendary Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, whose birth anniversary falls on September 15. In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi hailed Visvesvaraya’s brilliance for leaving a lasting impact on India’s engineering landscape. “Today, on Engineers Day, I pay homage to Sir M. Visvesvaraya, whose brilliance left an indelible mark on India’s engineering landscape,” he wrote. “I extend warm greetings to all engineers who, through their creativity and determination, continue to drive innovation and tackle tough challenges across sectors.”

PM Modi also highlighted how Indian engineers play a vital role in building a developed India, or Viksit Bharat, through their innovative spirit. Engineers’ Day honors Visvesvaraya, one of India’s greatest engineers, whose visionary work shaped the nation’s infrastructure.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined the tributes, praising engineers for pushing India towards the top in technological progress. In his X post, Shah said, “Your vision, innovation, and dedication are fast advancing India to the pinnacle of technological progress. On the Jayanti of Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvaraya Ji, I bow to the legendary engineer who set us on this transformative path.”

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also remembered Visvesvaraya’s contributions to modern India’s infrastructure. “Humble tributes to legendary engineer Bharat Ratna recipient M. #Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary, celebrated as #EngineersDay,” he posted on X. “He played a key role in building many engineering marvels which built the foundation of modern India infrastructure. May his commitment and integrity inspire all of us to dedicate ourselves to building a strong nation.”

Sir M. Visvesvaraya, born on September 15, 1861, earned the Bharat Ratna in 1955 for his outstanding work in engineering, nation-building, and public service. Known as a pioneer, he revolutionized India’s infrastructure with smart designs, forward-thinking plans, and solutions that blended technical skill with real-world benefits. As an economist, statesman, and writer too, his legacy in engineering continues to motivate generations to innovate and solve problems for a stronger India.
