Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Slams Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Over Alleged Pakistan Links and British Passports
In a fiery press conference in Guwahati on Thursday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took strong aim at Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi. Sarma accused Gogoi of having suspicious ties to Pakistan and pointed out that three of his family members hold British passports, calling it a major embarrassment for any Indian lawmaker.
Sarma didn’t hold back while speaking to reporters. "The Special Investigation Team (SIT) report on the Congress MP’s alleged Pakistan connections raises some really alarming issues," he said. "We’ll review it in the state cabinet first, and then share most details with the media, except for sensitive parts."
He ramped up the criticism by highlighting Gogoi’s family situation. "It’s downright shameful that the MP’s wife and kids carry British passports," Sarma remarked. "The Congress party talks big about following Mahatma Gandhi, but this is hypocrisy. If I were still in Congress, I’d have pulled this leader off the stage myself!"
The controversy stems from an SIT probe launched on February 17, 2025, to dig into the activities of Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his network. Sarma revealed that the investigation uncovered shocking details, suggesting a bigger plot to threaten India’s security.
What’s more, the SIT found links to a British national married to an Indian MP – that’s Gogoi’s wife – involved in these shady dealings with Sheikh. Sarma also claimed Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior helped arrange a visit for the Assam MP to the country.
"This involvement of Pakistan’s government machinery is deeply worrying," Sarma added. He assured that the Assam government will scrutinize the full SIT report before discussing it in the cabinet. Once approved, they’ll release the key findings to the public.
The developments have sparked heated debates on national security, Pakistan-India relations, and the loyalty of public figures. Stay tuned as more details from the SIT report emerge.
