In the wake of devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh, the Arhati Association of Solan stepped up with a generous donation on Wednesday. The group handed over more than Rs 16 lakh to the state’s Disaster Relief Fund to help families hit hard by recent calamities.
The total came to Rs 16,62,996 in cheques, presented directly to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in Shimla. Key contributors included Rs 11 lakh from APMC Solan, Rs 2,20,996 from Principal Market Solan, Rs 1 lakh from Apple Market Solan, Rs 2 lakh from Terminal Market Yard Parwanoo, and Rs 21,000 each from Sub Market Yard Waknaghat and Sub Market Yard Dharampur.
CM Sukhu thanked everyone involved, noting how these donations make a real difference in delivering quick support to those in need during tough times like floods and heavy rains.
Joining the event were MLA Vinod Sultanpuri, APMC Chairman Roshan Thakur, and other representatives.
The heavy monsoon rains and floods this season have taken a heavy toll in Himachal Pradesh, claiming over 450 lives. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) report, 497 people suffered injuries. Damage stretched far and wide: 1,804 houses were completely destroyed, while 29,466 others saw partial harm. Public infrastructure losses alone hit Rs 4,861 crore, underscoring the urgent need for relief efforts in areas like Solan.
