SP MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq Supports PM Modi’s Swadeshi Push Amid Export Challenges in Sambhal
In a show of unity, Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq from Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal has thrown his weight behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to embrace Swadeshi goods. Speaking on Thursday, Barq said he fully supports promoting country-made products and dreams of seeing them exported across the globe.
But there’s a catch. Barq highlighted how tough times are hitting local businesses due to heavy tariffs from the US, which have slashed exports. Many firms in Sambhal are struggling, with some even facing shutdowns. "Our export policies need a serious upgrade to help Swadeshi items reach international markets," he urged.
He painted a grim picture of the situation in nearby areas like Muradabad and Sambhal. Factories that once employed anywhere from 200 to 2,000 workers are now laying off staff left and right. "These companies are on the brink of closure, and it’s hurting families and the local economy," the SP leader added.
Shifting gears, Barq also responded to PM Modi’s recent nod to celebrate September 17 as Hyderabad Liberation Day. The MP praised the Indian Army, saying, "We deeply respect our soldiers, take pride in their strength, and know they’re ready for any challenge."
PM Modi’s Swadeshi appeal came during a speech in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district on Wednesday. He urged every Indian to choose local products to build a self-reliant India, or Atmanirbhar Bharat. "The road to a developed India runs through supporting our own industries and artisans," Modi said, emphasizing how this would create jobs and cut reliance on imports.
In a fun, symbolic touch, the Prime Minister suggested shops everywhere put up signs saying "Garv se kaho ye swadeshi hai" – meaning "Say with pride, this is Swadeshi." He tied it all to the upcoming GST rate cuts, calling it the perfect moment for people to back Made in India goods and boost local entrepreneurs.
Barq’s endorsement comes at a time when the Swadeshi movement is gaining fresh momentum, blending national pride with economic growth. As India pushes for self-reliance, voices like his remind us that while the vision is strong, fixing export hurdles is key to making it a reality.
