In Chennai on Saturday, Tamil Nadu BJP leader and former state president K. Annamalai blasted the DMK government, calling it a money‑mismanaging and word‑coating party. He pointed to the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) 2023‑24 audit and demanded that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin explain serious governance lapses.
Annamalai warned that the DMK wasted ₹14,808 crore that was earmarked for 1,540 projects in the 2023‑24 budget. “Why were these projects not executed even though the money was approved?” he asked. He also highlighted a shortfall in the state’s electricity tax collection. Out of ₹1,985 crore raised from consumers in 2023‑24, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) allegedly did not transfer ₹507 crore to the Consolidated Fund. “Where did that money go?” he demanded.
The criticism extended to the state’s handling of GST compensation. Tamil Nadu received ₹28,024 crore from the central government between 2021‑22 and 2023‑24. A State Planning Commission recommendation had called for 10 % of that amount to fund local bodies, but Annamalai said the DMK ignored the suggestion. “Why were the local governments denied the money they were owed?” he queried.
Annamalai said the DMK’s electoral promises have failed—the party listed 511 promises and district‑level commitments when it campaigned for power, yet less than 10 % have been fulfilled. “Will the Chief Minister dare retreat from the 2026 Assembly election after deceiving voters?” he challenged. The BJP leader also accused the ruling party of worsening Tamil Nadu’s debt burden: the DMK had promised to cut state debt, but in the past four years it has borrowed an additional ₹5 lakh crore. “Is this reckless borrowing justifiable?” he asked.
He appended a call for accountability, complaining the DMK is silent on corruption in central government schemes. “Why do they protect corrupt officials? Will the Chief Minister answer?” he urged. Annamalai concluded that if the DMK gets humiliated in court or by the people, it should stop re‑playing old narratives and instead offer fresh solutions.
The remarks by K. Annamalai add fresh fuel to an already tense political climate in Tamil Nadu, as the DMK faces growing criticism over financial management, unfulfilled promises, and rising debt.
