India’s Defence Minister, Sanjay Seth, welcomed his UK counterpart, Vernon Coaker, in Mumbai on Friday. The meeting came during the UK Carrier Strike Group’s (CSG) visit to India. Both ministers talked about how the CSG’s recent sea exercise, Konkan‑25, went well off India’s western coast, and they planned next steps for deeper ties between the two navies.
Seth highlighted how real‑world drills boost understanding of each navy’s tactics and improve joint operations. He also praised India’s growing ability to produce its own defence equipment, a key element of Aatmanirbharta. Coaker echoed these points, stressing the importance of shared logistics and supply‑chain cooperation in a global defence framework.
The pair reaffirmed their pledge to strengthen maritime cooperation across the Indo‑Pacific and Indian Ocean. They agreed to support a free, open and rules‑based order that keeps navigation secure. The talks also aligned with the India‑UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Vision 2035, the roadmap set when Prime Minister Modi visited the UK in July 2025.
