On Monday, Virendra Sachdeva, the President of the Delhi BJP, said he was “shocked” by the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) false claims about Delhi’s bad air and by their criticism of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s trip to help campaign in Bihar.
Sachdeva called out former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and former Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj for “spreading lies” about pollution and for questioning the CM’s visit to a “poll‑bound” state. The BJP leader added that Delhi residents see the city’s air quality getting better, even though last Monday’s AQI stood at 310.
He urged the AAP Delhi president to show where Sisodia had been hiding over the last months before criticizing the BJP chief minister and ministers for traveling to Bihar for elections. Sachdeva noted that when Delhi’s average AQI was 310, Bharadwaj promoted a group that called Delhi a “gas chamber.” He pointed out that on November 3 in the past three years, the AQI had reached 382 in 2024, 468 in 2023, and 450 in 2022—so why would AAP worry about pollution only now?
“BJP is the responsible government,” Sachdeva said. “Our environment minister works with experts to tackle air pollution.” He also mentioned that it is normal for state leaders to travel and campaign during elections. Still, he challenged Bharadwaj: if it’s wrong for CM Gupta to visit Bihar during the pollution season, what do they say about Punjab’s Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Mann’s trip to Gujarat after recent floods?
The Delhi BJP president finished by questioning Delhi’s Leader of Opposition Atishi’s long stay in Goa and former Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai’s extended stay in Gujarat for campaigning.
