In a fresh push to boost Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, the Uttar Pradesh government has rolled out an exciting new program: weekly ‘shramdan’ sessions in all Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Schools and government hostels across the state. Launched on Sunday under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Minister of State for Social Welfare Asim Arun, this initiative gets students hands-on with the Clean India mission every week.
Picture this: Every Sunday, students dive into cleaning and sprucing up their school and hostel campuses. The goal? To build discipline, teamwork, and a real respect for hard work while making these spaces cleaner and more lively. It’s all about turning young minds into active participants in Swachh Bharat, inspiring them to rally their friends and families too.
The shramdan drive covers every Sarvodaya school and government hostel in Uttar Pradesh. Students will roll up their sleeves for tasks like fixing broken chairs, tables, and furniture; scrubbing water tanks and drains; and sorting waste properly. Schools have already stocked up on essentials—brooms, spades, buckets, pans, and dustbins—to make it easy.
But it doesn’t stop at cleaning. The program spotlights gardening too, with activities like weeding, planting new saplings, and turning dry leaves into compost. This hands-on approach will spark stronger environmental awareness among kids, tying right into the broader Clean India goals.
To keep things fun and competitive, schools will split students into houses, each taking charge of shramdan duties. Expect some friendly rivalry as groups race to make their campuses shine!
For tracking progress, schools will snap before-and-after photos of the shramdan efforts and upload them to a central web portal via QR codes. This ensures everything stays transparent and accountable, letting everyone see the real impact of these weekly Clean India drives in Uttar Pradesh.
