Sudarsan Pattnaik creates sand art to celebrate India’s Asia Cup victory

In the coastal town of Puri, Odisha, renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik has captured India’s triumphant Asia Cup 2025 victory in a stunning sand creation. Pattnaik built the artwork to cheer on Team India, blending cricket glory with cultural touches.
“We made this sand art to congratulate our Indian cricket team,” Pattnaik shared. “We’ve prayed to Maa Durga for their winning streak to keep going. With India clinching the Asia Cup, millions across the country are celebrating, and we’re joining in through this piece. It shows a Rafale jet holding a cricket bat, with the sacred sindoor symbol glowing in the background.”
This isn’t Pattnaik’s first nod to the team. Just before the tournament kicked off, he crafted an impressive 250-ball sand sculpture of Goddess Durga blessing Team India, wishing them luck on the field.
The victory came down to a thrilling final in Dubai on Sunday, where India chased down Pakistan’s total to win by five wickets. Tilak Varma starred with a solid half-century, forming key partnerships with Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube. This marks India’s second T20I Asia Cup title and their ninth overall, counting the ODI versions.
Under captain Suryakumar Yadav, Team India remains unstoppable in T20Is. Since Yadav took the helm, they’ve racked up 18 wins, just two losses, and two ties, keeping their rampage alive.
Yadav couldn’t hide his excitement after the unbeaten run. “It feels amazing to win a tournament without dropping a game,” he said. “The whole team and the entire country shared that joy. We gathered last night, laughed a lot, and just soaked it all in.”
In a heartfelt gesture post-match, Yadav pledged to donate his full match fees from the T20 Asia Cup to support the Indian Armed Forces and victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. “On my way to the press conference, I realized we could make a small difference,” he explained. “If everyone chips in a bit, it adds up. Things moved so fast, but I’ll do whatever I can to help.”
