BJP Leader Sukanta Majumdar Accuses West Bengal Police of Protocol Breach at Kolkata Airport
In a bold move, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, who once led the BJP in West Bengal, has fired off a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. He claims the West Bengal Police violated protocol and showed contempt of privilege during a recent incident at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport.
The drama unfolded on Monday afternoon. Majumdar was heading to the airport to bid farewell to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But his vehicle got stopped at the first barricade by a sub-inspector and a constable from the West Bengal Police. Meanwhile, a state minister’s car—belonging to Sujit Bose—zipped through without any hassle, right up to the VVIP Gate No. 4.
Majumdar didn’t hold back in his letter. He called the police officers’ behavior "derogatory" and said they told him they were just following orders from Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Aishwariya Sagar. "This shows the West Bengal government is deliberately ignoring rules for Union ministers," he wrote, slamming it as a clear breach of protocol.
He urged Birla to treat this as a serious violation of parliamentary privilege. Majumdar wants the matter sent to the Committee of Privileges for a full probe and action. It’s a big deal, especially with tensions running high between the BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
As of now, the Trinamool Congress, the West Bengal government, and Bidhannagar City Police haven’t responded to the allegations. We’ll keep you updated if they do—stay tuned for more on this Kolkata airport controversy and West Bengal politics.
