New Delhi – A large fire broke out in the crowded Pangal Basti area of Moreh town, in Tengnoupal district of Manipur, on Saturday. The blaze quickly threatened homes, shops and important public buildings, but it was stopped in time by soldiers from the Assam Rifles.
Within minutes of receiving a call, 63 troops from Assam Rifles arrived on the scene. They were armed with firefighting gear and had been trained for disaster situations. The soldiers worked hard under heavy heat to smother the flames.
“Coordinating closely with local police, fire fighters and residents, our team was able to keep the fire from spreading and prevent damage to many houses,” an official said. The troops also helped evacuate people who were living in the danger zone and used their first‑aid kits to treat those with smoke inhalation or minor burns right at the site.
The operation, which ran through the afternoon, brought relief to residents who had feared for their safety. Many locals thanked the Assam Rifles for their quick actions and professional help.
The incident shows how the Assam Rifles step beyond their usual duties to support communities in emergencies. Their readiness and teamwork with civil agencies highlight the force’s role as a guardian of the North‑East region.
With the fire contained and the area cleared, residents are left to recover, grateful for the soldiers’ swift response and the protection they provided. The Assam Rifles continue to serve as the “Sentinels of the North‑East,” ready to defend lives and help build resilience across the region.
