Tejashwi Yadav Criticizes PM Modi’s Delay in Visiting Manipur Amid Ongoing Ethnic Conflict
Patna, Bihar: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav didn’t hold back on Saturday when he slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking so long to visit Manipur. The state has been gripped by ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023, causing massive damage to its economy, social fabric, and politics.
Speaking to reporters, Tejashwi said, "PM Modi has taken too long to go there. The Manipur issue should be resolved as soon as possible—it’s been dragging on for far too long. Plus, people in Assam are protesting too. I think he should visit Assam as well."
This marks PM Modi’s first trip to Manipur since the conflict erupted over a year ago. During his visit on Saturday, he urged all ethnic groups in the state to drop the violence and join hands for peace. "A new dawn of hope and confidence is rising in our northeastern state," Modi told the crowd in Imphal.
The Prime Minister kicked off several development projects worth more than Rs 1,200 crore to boost Manipur’s growth. He highlighted how these initiatives will make life easier for locals, upgrade infrastructure, and create jobs for the youth. "Projects worth thousands of crores are being launched today to build a stronger Manipur," Modi added.
Two standout projects caught his attention: the Manipur Urban Roads Project, backed by over Rs 3,600 crore, and the Manipur Infotech Development Project, with more than Rs 500 crore invested. These efforts aim to pave the way for better connectivity and tech-driven opportunities in the region.
As Manipur works to heal from the ethnic clashes, calls for swift action and more visits to troubled areas like Assam continue to grow.
